Listening—Language—Literacy Initiative

To learn a language—be it aural or sign—children must have exposure to language that is rich in quantity and quality.  Language nutrition emphasizes the importance of parents, other family members, and educators to talk, interact, read, and engage with their children.  This is important for all children, but it is critical for children who are deaf and hard of hearing. Research demonstrates the impact of such parenting practices on literacy and a child’s future success.

This seminar will involve three experts—each with a specific focus on language learning and reading. Come engage with us and take home lessons that will help families of children with hearing loss apply these concepts to build their child’s vocabulary and reading proficiency. Come engage with us and help us learn more from you about how we can offer our children language nutrition.
