Do you have questions about the special education process? Are you looking to better understand how it works and what your rights are as a parent or caregiver? Join us for this 3-part series taking place the following dates:

  • Thursday: November 13th 6:00pm – 7:30pm 
  • Saturday: November 22nd 9:30am – 11:00am 
  • Saturday: December 6th 9:30am – 11:00am

Topics Covered:

Foundations of Special Education – Fundamentals for Families and Professionals

This session introduces the foundations of the special education process, covering eligibility determination, parent and student rights, and the essential components of the IEP

Effective Skills for Advocacy, Collaboration and Communication in IEP Processes

This training equips families with effective advocacy and communication strategies to use within the IEP and 504 processes. Participants will learn how to express concerns, collaborate with school teams, and strengthen partnerships that support student success.

Navigating School Meetings with Confidence

This session provides families with practical strategies for preparing for IEP meetings, including follow-up and documentation. It also explores effective approaches for handling disagreements within the IEP team and introduces families to the range of dispute resolution procedures available.

  •  Participants will receive certificate after completion of both sessions.    
  • This series also serves as a pre-requisite for participants who have not met the requirements for participation in the Parent Mentor Program. 
  • Each session will include practical guidance, Q&A, and resources to help you navigate your child’s educational journey with confidence.
