Many parents are surprised to learn their child with a disability can be suspended for violations to the code of conduct. However, there are certain steps that must be taken to ensure a student with a disability is not continuously suspended for behaviors which may be related to his/her disability or a result of their IEP not being implemented properly. This fact sheet gives an overview of the disciplinary process when a student with a disability has been suspended, including information about manifestation determination meetings.
